In September 2007 we launched the OnBoard scheme in the West Midlands. My role as ODO (OnBoard Development Officer) is to promote sailing and windsurfing for youngsters in the West Midlands Region by setting up links between schools and a growing network of OnBoard Clubs and Outdoor Education Activity Centres.

Since the launch the interest in the OnBoard scheme has been growing at a rapid pace. Originally we had set ourselves the target of three OnBoard Clubs and Outdoor Education Activity Centres in the first year. However at the Regional Instructor Conference in March 2008, John Thorne the National Coach presented plaques to five clubs and centres that had obtained full OnBoard accreditation. In addition to these we have also signed up five development clubs and centres and this is growing.
